Hello,

I have been looking for a while for a Discovery 158 used and finally
found one in my price range. It has the usual scanr down the bottom of
the boat from ricer canoeing and one spot that I assume is oil canning.

First, What I think is called oil canning is an upward bubble in the
middle of the boat that basically take up the width of the bottom.
Wider in the middle and narrowing at the sides. It is not hard to push
down, however it does come right back when pressure is removed. What I
am doing as we speak is elevating it several inches above the ground by
the two ends of the boats. I have then placed enough weight on the
bubble to make it hold the shape I think it needs to be. One more fact
I am doing this all in the midday "hot sun". My hope is the heat and
pressure combined will allow it to remold to it's original shape and
the cool night will then harden it so it will memorize the shape. Is
this what I should be doing? Any other Idea?

Second is the bottom surface of the boat. I think it is getting a
little thin. I would like to extend the life of this canoe as much as
I can. Is there a kit I can use to resurface or possible add a layer?
Any idea or opinions are welcome.
