It is like a dipole antenna except...

It sound like it might be an "end fed" long wire for HF... or
what useto be called a Zep antenna. I may be wrong about
the latter term..cause it has been many many years that I have
messed around with HF mobile and/or land antennas... much
less remember the theory.

Assuming your HF tranceiver does *not* have an antenna tuner
in line... I would sure be interested in your SWR readings for this
thing.

If resonance is AOK... also wondering what the radiation patterns
look like. Needless to say... had you strung up a true dipole
running fore and aft... your signal strength in front and behind you
would suck... at least in theory any way.
