We are back safely from our vacation on South Bass

Despite the fact that we had a golf cart stolen from our driveway by
a
couple of 17 year old punks (I ended up catching them and turned
them
over to the police) we had a great time.
I am on vacation for another week but this time just chilling around
the
house and doing some boating. ;-)
Stay near your boat...any more rain and you'll need it to get to the
supermarket.
We had a pretty bad storm pass through here on Thursday........it hit
the
east end of Cleveland especially hard with up to 9 inches of rain
coming
down in an hour:

This has been one of the wettest and most humid summer I can ever recall.
This is nothing.....I spent two weeks in China and the end of June, it
was 90+ and 90+ humidity. When you walked out a door, you immediately
turned wet.
So how crowded was the bay? I am planning on making a run there later,
possibly Labor day weekend. Have the crowds picked up yet. Last year
seemed to have the lingering effects of the water scare.
Last weekend they were rafted off up to 6 deep, but that was Christmas in
July weekend. There were still plenty of slips open when we left Friday
morning but friends of ours staying through the weekend said it was like
Sodom and Gomorrah once again last night in town...........meaning nothing
but rafting off on the Bay and all mooring buoys filled.
Regarding the water situation........all resorts and establishments had to
install Class A water filtration systems and are waiting for EPA approval on
those systems before they can be classify their tap water to be safe to
drink. We stayed at the Island Club and there were still notices on the
door about the tap water being non potable. Our unit had a Deer Park 5
gallon water cooler in it. We also brought 2 cases of bottled water.
The Island will be running a city water line around the perimeter of the
Island next year with all resorts and establishments expected to tap into
that supply, abandoning the well water systems they may have been on.
Regarding the humidity and rain............I still cannot recall it ever
being this bad through an entire summer. ;-)
