18 yrs from the day I joined the Navy to the last boat I ran a 12000 HP
offshore tow/supply boat for Point Marina.

Most of the Point Marine work was towing Simi's, jack-up's, and
platforms.

I loved the work, but the money was just not good enough, and someone
showed me a way to make much much more on my terms. I figured if I
stayed in the biz i'd be running a super taker by now for Exxon...I had
an uncle that could have paved the path, he ran tankers from 1942 to
1994. His last gig was the Valdez to the Longbeach OST back and forth,
over and over. He made good money.... 200K+ a year only working 6 mo a
year. He was a good Capt respected by his crews..... RIP. I think
when I boarded his supertanker off Long Beach in 1973 at 11 years
old.... that was when I made up my mind I was going to sea and become
a Captain. After 18 yrs of being told were to go and when to go the
romance of the career was lost, but the romance of the sea is still in
me :0).

You otta get a 100 ton passengers 100 mile offshore and run a whale
watching boats, they are just bulky crewboats. They are a blast to
master.

Only thing current is my AB ticket, tankerman, lifeboatman.

I would need 120 days on a vessel greater than 300 tons to re-new my
Masters.
I will most likely never re-new as I do not plan to run ships or boats
again for a living.

Fire fighting is just as an extensive section of the test as
navigation, once you get above 100 tons.
