I have one of those engines, on a larger, much heavier boat than yours.
At WOT, I can run the engine up to 6000 RPM without any difficulty. I
don't do it very often, though.

Your best cruise RPM probably is 4000 RPM, or between 4000 and 4500 RPM.
The engine runs very nicely at those speeds. You should be getting more
than 30 mph at those RPMs.

What are you using to determine boat speed?

The Tach on the boat seems to always gum up the guy who sold us the
boat told us it hardly ever works. He installed a Fish finder with a
depth finder aswell as a built in tach with a little wheel at the back
of the boat. Like you see on most jet ski's, Im not sure how the
original one on the boat works.

Thanks for the replys I feel more comfortable running the engine at
faster rpms now.
