Default OMC 140 HP POWER TRIM PROBLEMS

LATEST UPDATE:

Found black box. Switched relays around and my problem switched around
also. Will play it safe and change both because part is back-order
localy and I have to get it 35 miles from here tomorrow; might as well
get two. Dealer knew part number by heart so it is a frequent problem.
$23.52 local canadian price.

Will post results tomorrow night. Thank you for saving me time to find
problem with a tester. Experience ....

Switch and try to see, but replace both with newer style. The other will
only fail soon. They are less than 20 each.

I don't know jack about omc outboards but you wouldn't troubleshoot any
further? Check voltages with an ohm meter? Are there two relays
because one is up and one is down? Would swapping them possibly cause
the down to start working and the up to stop working? Thus telling you
only the down relay is bad? Or is it if one is bad then the other
can't be far behind?

On the back side of the engine, right between the cylinder heads, there

is a
black plastic box. Remove the 2 screws holding the cover and remove the
cover.

First make sure all screw connections are tight. If so then replace the

2
relays. Those are the square black items in this box. They are about 1
1/2" square and just pull out. Replace both. Here is the Johnson part
number. 586224.

Power trim on my 140 HP only works to raise motor. Now it is
positionned at max trim up. I tried both switches. One at shifter and
one directly on side of motor. Does anyone have any suggestions?
