Trim Issue/Wired Incorrectily Maybe
To be clearer, that switch suggests that the boat has trim tabs in
addition to the ability for the outdrive to be trimmed. They would be
square and mounted at the edges of the boat on either side of the
outdrive. They can be used to compensate for uneven loads side to side
as well as front to back. If you do see the tabs on either side get
someone to operate the silver switch while you watch them. That sounds
like a bennett switch. I never likes the human factor aspect of their
controls. Basically the tabs will do exactly the opposite of the
switch. In other words pushing the switch up makes the tabs go down.
The trim control on the shifter will tilt the engine up and down. This
can also be used to assist in getting on plane and to compensate for
uneven loads. But it can only help fore to aft.
Normally on an i/o boat with trim tabs you start out with the tabs
retracted and the outdrive trimmed down. The outdrive trimmed down
assists with getting on plane. After you accelerate and get on plane
you trim the outdrive to the center position, it should have a position
gauge btw. And then adjust the boat's level with the trim tabs. Most
trim tabs do not have a position indicator so you adjust them by how
they affect the boat while underway. If you do have a trim tab
position indicator it will have one display for each tab. Unlike your
outdrive trim gauge which basically is just a single needle.
You may also use the trim tabs to hold the nose down in choppy water
reducing porpoising.
Hope all that helps and enjoy your new boat.

Hello
First thanks in advance to all posters!
BACKGROUND:
I just bought a 1986 21 foot sea ray cuddy with markings on the side of
the boat 210 CSL and Sun Runner (think it is a sea ray, maybe not),
chevy/merc stern drive 260hp. No manuals or boat info, very clean and
great motor.
ISSUE:
On the instrument panel I have a silver joy stick that is six
directionial, from top working clock wise it says 1. bow up 2.
starboard up 3. starboard down 4. bow down 5. port down 6. port up. Is
this trim control? No wires hooked up to it. A new shifter has been
put in and it has a up down tilt switch on it.
First day on the water (loved it) boat would (not sure about correct
terminology) severily lisp to side of extra adult at all speeds. Is
this trim control for that issue and can it be rehooked up or not?
Does this boat have trim control or do you get rid of lisp different
way, yes i made adults moved around but if at speed took a while to
correct.
Hope some one knows something.
Thanks

ps any info on the boat in general would be great help also info on how
to take care of it (new boat owner, graduated form PWC to boat!!)
If you can identify the brand of trim tabs you should be able to contact the
manufacturer and get some wiring diagrams. If the tabs are in place and you
can locate a trim pump somewhere near the engine, chances are you can locate
a trim tab wiring harness near the dash. If you can get them working you
will realize what an asset they are to your size boat.
