I rememebr seeing a documentaryon the Queen Elizebeth (not the QE2) and
they had about a 6' or so line strung to it. and were giving here a
good drink.
It showed a meter on the pump just happily clicking away, at actually a
pretty good rait, about a click every 12 seconds. The narrarator was
commenting about the pump and said. Oh and BTW, that meter isn't
reading gallons, it's reading tons!

(Actually, this is the high endurance cutter Midgett being serviced by
a Navy oiler off the coast of California).
At the current fuel pump prices, I hesitate to guess how many hundreds
of dollars worth of fuel is in the *hose* itself in this photo. :-)
