Default Slips beat Moorings

If I were on City Island, the last place I'd want to be is dockside
with the
Latino beat blaring from the neighbor's boom box. A mooring would be
far
preferable, particularly with the 24 hour launch service the other
clubs
offer.

Ah yes....when Dave loses on every point, why he'll just make something

up!
There is no loud radio playing permitted at our club. The slips are
privately owned. This is not Bayside marina. We have 24 hour security
and a dockmaster. And please don't lie about launch service. I sail
boats out of HYC, SYC, CIYC...come in late at night and we have trouble

getting a pick up half the time. A few times we had to go to the
service dock and have even left the boat there. Douglaston yacht club
is at least honest about it....no 24 hour service.
There is nothng prefereable about a mooring here. Slip gives the
following...

More secure in bad weather (far less damage to boats here)
More secure due to dockmaster and workers watching boats daily.
Instant boat access.
Ability to use boat even when it's rough, wet, or just not a good
sailing day. The luanch drivers will not take you to your boat when
there's a blow.
Ability to wash, maintain boat whenever.
Full time electric and water
Real service dept on the premises
Dinghy dock is free and in water. Usually a crappy rack at mooring
based clubs.
Expect to get as much as 1/3rd more use out of the boat when at a slip.

Easier for everyone to go sailing, especially kids and elderly.
Simply a more upscale experience. You never are made to feel like a
guest. Be treated like you LIVE THERE.
No waiting for the launch, no tipping the driver.
Easy loading and unloading of anything. If you forgot something, you
can get it without calling for help from the launch driver.
Control. Slips give you more out of your boat. It's such a huge time
advantage that you'll wonder that you were on a mooring at all. People
who get slips never go back to moorings if they can help it!

There are some areas where boats in slips are at a greater risk for
damage, but the LIS is not one of them. Moorings here are simply the
low end. Been there, done that.
