Fluids for 1973 Johnson 25HP
The 25 Sea Horse was a reliable engine. The oil to gas is 50 to 1, but I
would recommend 89 octane fuel and using a TCW-3 oil, or an oil designed for
the engine which is now sold under the Evinrude Johnson label as XD-30. If
you want something better you can us the XD-50.
The gear oil is Evinrude Johnson Premium Blend. If you continuously get
milky fluid in the gearcase due to water getting in, you may want to
consider getting the gearcase resealed.
Good luck and have fun.

I am a total newbie to the whole boating thing. I just bought a 14'
Starcraft Aluminum Deep V with a 1973 Johnson 25 Horse recently and was
wondering a couple of things.
What kind of fluids do I need to perform oil changes, what is the fuel
to oil ratio? I think it would be 50:1, but not sure. Any other
information on this particular year/motor
The motor runs great, runs on 1 pull every time, and has good
compression. The only thing is that from time to time the guy that I
bought it from said the oil in the lower unit will get water in it.
