Default The price of a good day on the water ...

Took my wife out on the lake with my 2 kids and 3 of their friends.
A little chilly in the morning until the noon sun had burned off the fog and
added a little heat to the north wind.
Water temp was extra warm since the air had a little chill to it.
Not too crowded.
Lots of tubing and our ritualistic picnic in the cove with only the sound of
wind, wavelets, birds, laughter, ....

So, the price?
I hit a tree at 3 mph. Let me clarify that it was a submerged tree dead
center in the middle of the cove. It was the top of a tree that someone had
sawn off so no damage, except pride, as we glided over and off the "stump"
while I shifted quickly to neutral and raised the outdrive as fast it would
raise. Whew!

Still having trouble with dieseling. ???

Idle failed to drop to it's normal level a couple of times when shifting to
neutral, but not consistent. ???

Red water poured out when I opened the drain plug with the boat on the
trailer, but my fluid levels check out as normal. ???

Having a lot of trouble with latching and releasing the trailer hitch. I'll
throw a little grease (it's been a year) on the ball and see if that changes
anything, but I think the real source is the V shape the hitch and tongue
make when I park my boat on my slanted driveway with my truck in the
opposite slanting street.
And, finally, my engine hours are back to zero. I'm starting a different
thread for that topic.

So, lots of little glitches, including the 15 year old that presented as
morose and sullen and apathetic all day, who finished with an unsolicited
"Thanks for taking us out, Dad." Blasted teenagers .... All in all, as
good a day as JohnH had (minus the boat issues). Hope everyone else had a
good day on the water.
