Raytheon radar specs (bad ass radars)

It's quite directional and high frequency. The manufacturers tell you
the angle of verticle coverage expressed in degrees above and below
horizontal. On my sailboat, the array is mounted on an 8 foot pole on
the top edge of the transom. That puts it pretty high above my head.
As I walk forward on the boat, I am not in line with the path of the
radiation until I am about 15 feet, or more, forward. The manufacturer
(who would be very cautious and conservative due to product liability
issues) says that as long as the unit is at least two feet above your
head, or five feet away laterally, you are completely safe. I think
you are probably in a lot more danger standing a foot in front of a
microwave oven while it is running. In other words, it's pretty much a
non issue if you have mounted it properly.
A side question, but how does this radar hold up on the 8 foot pole in
stormy weather? That ought to be one strong pole.
