NOYBy will try to get his teeth into it...
And Chuck will write a review if he can get a free ride or ad... :-}
Of course he will, Chuck writes for a boating magazine and that is what
they do. If it wasn't for those ads, we would not have any boating
magazines.
Chucks articles about the boats he sees are as good as any I have read,
and when he reposts them in rec.boats, they always stir up great on
topic posts.
Some of them are fun to read, as I have commented from time to time, but
they're advertorials, with the emphasis on "ad."
I don't disagree with you, but those "ads" or "reviews" are most new
boaters introduction to the different boats on the market. As long as
people understand (and I think most readers understand) they are not
critical reviews of the boats) they do give a potential boat buyer a list
of boats to review in detail at the dealer or boat show.
These fluff pieces or "advertorials" are not limited to boating magazines
and their staff, it is that way in 99% of the catagory magazines (ie
Photography, HiFi etc).
As I said, I am glad Chuck and the boat magaszines continue to write their
"reviews", they make for some fun reading and keep the magazines in
business.
Chuck does a great job of stirring up on topic posts in rec.boats, and at
times we really need some stirring up.

That's my story and I am sticking to it!
Those infomercials are kind of dull without pictures, doncha think?
Jim
Jim,
The articles are as good as any I have read in a boating magazine, but
the real benefit of the reprints is they stir up some nice on topic
discussions. It doesn't matter if you like the boat or hate the boat
Chuck is writing about, those threads a great for rec.boats.
I am glad he posts them, because even if I gloss over the original
posts, I always enjoy reading the thread. For the most part, the
threads remain on topic, entertaining and informative.
