Joe, you expose yourself with every post. There's no reason not to take
a 35s5 offshore if that's the game plan. In fact, with more than half
racing in Europe, many of the races are quite long and offshore.

As long as plenty of rescue boats are around you might be OK.


There's no reason to not take a Catalina 30 offshore either, so long as
you watch the large companionway hatch.

to depart, will be Epic compared to anything you will ever do at

Yeah, we hear that all the time. And we also have some nice plans to
set off for longer sailing adventures down the road. But let me give
you a tip. There are plenty of things that can trip you up while you
wait.

Also plenty of other things now take priorty.


If you have any love for sailing itself, go today.

Why?

Don't wait for
tomorrow. In an hour we'll be off for an afternoon sail. I don't need
to cross an ocean to enjoy the wind in my sails. Even a few hours is
fantastic. Every time, Joe. Because we love it.

Same with my boats, why pull out the cruiser when a day sailor works?


If you think sailing is
only about sailing distances, winning races, where you sail, or the
type of design you prefer, you've missed the whole point.

Just getting out on the
water is not a deep desire.


Well it might occur to you that there are plenty of folks who love to
sail and getting out there is any capacity is great. I don't meet any
sailors, including the ones who cross oceans, who don't yearn to be on
the water, even for a day.

Yeah all you lubbers are that way. You get all gitty about it. I was
that way the first few years, crossing the pacific the first few time,
in the N sea was exciting, but I've been living aboard boats since
1979. Sure Id like to get out crusing now, but other things are of more
importance right now. I can wait and pick when I want to go.



A fine ocean cruiser with AC's installed that work while underway,
same with the fridge, freezer, microwave, fans, icemaker, radar, sonar,

TV's ect....just like a home...not a weekend french winnabago camper,
on par to a coleman tent with a porta pottie.

If you feel you need all of that onboard, so be it. We've spent a few
nights aboard our 35s5 and love it. If we end up wanting the AC, we'll
drop in an genset easy as pie. The platform and harness are already in
place. But we probably won't need it. We will be sailing and have
exactly the right gear for local sailing, weekending and longer trips.
When we need a bigger boat, we'll get it. It will still be fast, unlike
your boat. And we won't spend years outfitting it. Joe,

You would not know how to outfit a boat, stick to mass production.

you're story is
quite old and tired, but I hope (against the odds) that it works out.
You must know that it often doesn't.


35s5 were made
for. Only a fool would take either boats offshore.

Since I personally know people who go offshore in Beneteau's, Tartans,
J-Boats, Catalinas and Columbia's, I really have no idea of what you're
talking about. 35s5's have circumnavigated, Joe. All it takes is time.

No it's not. We take weekend trips and almost always have 5-7 people
aboard for daysails. We make good use of the cabin and Thomas has his
own play area in the aft cabin.

Yeah restrictions like playpens, sure do ad on to a day sailor. Makes
people buy ugly mobiles like minivans as well.

Whats the hull speed of a 35s5?

Joe, why do you do this to yourself? Why???? You must know this sort of
thing makes you look dumb, desperate and ready to go nova. Your boat
does not have a hull speed of 13 knots. A Swan 57 is barely over 9
knots fer cripes sake.

Thats swans problem.

Our boat is faster. It's certainly nicer and newer.

It's not nicer by a mile, newer=cheaper build.

use TODAY

I live aboard, have an office aboard and sail offshore TODAY.

and not waiting for some pipe dream to shake off 400 lbs of
rust. EVERY DAY YOU POST HERE is another day when Heart of Gold is
doing what we want her to, while your boat is simply a waste.

Waste?????? waste is your aft cabin/ play pen. If you were raising a
sailor he'd be on deck learning instead of peeling bananas with his
feet in the hot & humid playpen below.

Waste is buying an overpriced cheaply buildt throwaway boat and Van.
But hey live for "TODAY" bubbles. Easy come easy go. I see fools like
you all the time.

Face it...bubbles....you're a KIA Soccer Mom with an overpriced tender
daysailor, and with the 3000 lbs of rail meat you claim to haul around
your slower and more top heavy than a fatty knees

Give it up. When it comes to sailing enjoyment and quality vessels
you're still more than a dozen " stepping stones" behind me. When I'm
cruising you will be dealing with soccer games.
