BTW: I ended up following your original advice on the Ipod by purchasing a
moderately priced stereo for the boat today with an auxiliary input :

Although the Ipod plays fine in my car with the RoadTrip modulator the
stereo in the boat is an old analogue scroll dial fm stereo with no presets.
