Default Fluxgate calibration problems

Hi Group

I have been out today and have attempted to do a sea trial calibration
of my raymarine fluxgate and s6001 auto, I could get the system to
calibrate after following the setup guides and doing lots of very slow
speed revolutions. Only when i returned to my slip i did notice the a
small sony radio receiver had lodged itself about 1 foot on the other
side of the bulkhead where there the fluxgate is installed ... would
this have stopped the system from not getting a deviation reading ??

Propably.

I had a quite similar experience last summer. I'd been trying to calibrate
my ST7000 autopilot for four years with no success. I just couldn't get the
deviation on the autopilot screen which should indicate that the process is
complete. Then I happened to take a look at the storage compartment where
the fluxgate compass is located. There was a tin jerrycan containing fuel
for the dinghy outboard next to the plywood bulkhead. The fluxgate is on the
other side of the bulkhead... So after repositionin the jerrycan the
calibration process completed and fluxgate compass now works as advertised.
