Yes there is. Did you notice those little rubber
o-rings on the end and halfway down your drive
shaft? Make sure that they are well lubricated
with the proper lubricant, and make sure that the
splines are well lubricated. Also make sure that
the large (3-4") rubber seal gasket that goes
around the round part of the drive is not catching
as you shove the drive in, and lube it if necessary.
As you are lifting and pushing the outdrive into
place, make sure you align the splines by hand as
well as you can. Then grab the prop shaft and
gently turn the drive back and forth to get the
splines to line up while you are sliding it in.
It is a tight fit.
When it is almost together is when the sharp edge
of the round section of the outdrive will start to
contact that large rubber seal I mentioned
earlier. You've got to get that to align before
you can slide it the rest of the way together.
