Default Fluxgate calibration problems

The stereo might be a problem if it is close to the compass.
If it is a portable CD/radio, move it and go out calibrating again.

Here is some of my experience:
Normally it takes about 2-3 turns to complete the calibration
on a Raymarine system. Whenever I make a calibration it takes
about 5minutes to complete each turn and I guess the speed
to be about 4-5 knots.

If for some reason the ST6001 does not show a deviation number,
or the number is bigger than 15 after 4 turns, it is safe to say that
something is interfering with your compass. My opinion is that
Raymarine compasses quite sensitive to interference. It might be a
coincidence but after doing calibrations on many boats and different
makes this is my experience.

The good part is that whenewer there has been a problem with the
compass not beeing able to finish the calibration, moving it 0,5-1m has
been enough. Normally I've seen a deviation of 2-6 degrees after a
successful calibration. And afterwards when comparing to the GPS
the differance in COG and heading has been very on different courses,
0 to plus/minus a few degrees.

Hi Group

I have been out today and have attempted to do a sea trial calibration
of my raymarine fluxgate and s6001 auto, I could get the system to
calibrate after following the setup guides and doing lots of very slow
speed revolutions. Only when i returned to my slip i did notice the a
small sony radio receiver had lodged itself about 1 foot on the other
side of the bulkhead where there the fluxgate is installed ... would
this have stopped the system from not getting a deviation reading ??

My setup is

Ray C70 with pathfinder radome
Ray S6001
Ray fluxgate
Ray Smart heading sys
S3 corepack

My setup was carried out from the autopilot control head and also tried
from the C70 compass setup page but could not get the system to
complete th calibration. Would the small tranisitor radio spoil the
calibration, it was 1 foot away from the fluxgate and turn off Grrrr

I was doing 150 foot circles at very slow speed 1- 1.5 knots

Any advice appreciated , yes I will be removing the radio away fromthe
area

TIA
Franky
