I just purchased a Raymarine Ray54 radio for my Sea Fox 197CC, and am
trying to decide where to put it. I currently do not have a T-Top, but
I plan to add in a year or so, and the radio would be placed there
permanently.
My console does not have a radio box, so my options are top mount
(exposed to weather) or flush mount (requires a big hole).
I don't want to flush mount it, because of the hole, but I am worried
that exposure to weather would cause problems after awhile.
Any suggestions? Should I put it inside my console for the time being
in a box?
Others have offered good ideas for the radio but where are you going to
temporarily mount the antenna? Unless you can find a clamp mount, you
will need holes for that, too. You will also need more cable for the
T-top mount so you won't want to cut it short now.
You might consider a decent handheld VHF for now and as a backup later.

When I mounted my new antenna, the directions said *not* to cut the wire.
There should be room under the console to put the extra wire in a nice
little roll. I had enough room on a 15' Boston Whaler CC to do that.
