Default RaceSail Scoring Program Update

This is just a note to say that the RaceSail scoring program has just been
updated on the www.racesail.org web site to version 1.2.39.

The complete list of changes between the versions 1.2.38 and 1.2.39 is
listed under http://www.racesail.org/changes39.htm.

The documentation has been updated and the new manual will be found as
RaceSail.pdf in the .\Doc folder of the RaceSail directory if you installed
the new version. Just to see the documentation, you can download the
RaceSail.pdf file from http://www.racesail.org/rs39.pdf.

Remember that RaceSail has one of the fastest methods of entering sail
numbers (and times if necessary) in order to finish boats and also can post
the results to your web site with one click of the mouse.

RaceSail is free and can handle an unlimited number of boats and/or races.
One design finish order or handicap races using PRHF-TOD, PHRF-TOT,
Portsmouth, ORC-Club (Americap), IRC and PHRF-Pursuit can be scored.

For large race classes, the entries can be assigned to fleets that can be
sailed separately or in round robin fashion in order to reduce the number of
boats starting at one time. This is documented in ISAF RRS, Appendix L
Extended (http://www.sailing.org/rrs2005/AppLE010105template.doc).

The main changes are as follows:

COLUMN HEADERS

Added a way to change the column headers, hide columns, reorder columns.
Look at http://www.racesail.org/ModifyColumnsMenuItem.jpg that shows the
dialog box. This has removed the order column and changed the Skipper
column to "Helm."

RACE WEIGHTING

Added a weight to each race so that the new Olympic format can be scored.
In this, the last race is given a weight of 2.0 and is made non-discardable.

BETTER CONTEXT MENU

Added a context menu so that a right click on a column header can rapidly
format the column.

ADDED HANDICAP TO WIN AND TIME IMPROVEMENT TO WIN

Added two new optional columns that will list the improvement in finish time
(TWin) or the change in the handicap (HWin) that would allow a tie with the
winning boat.

SPECIFY FONTS AND COLORS FOR COLUMNS AND HEADERS

Added separate (HTML) classes to each column for the web page results. Now
you can change the font, color or size for an individual column and a
separate one for the column headers. The skipper column could be shown in
red and the Total column assigned bold face. An example web page has
been generated with the following class definitions in the style file:

td.Total {font-weight:bold; background:yellow; }
td.Score { font-weight:bold; background:aqua; }
th.FinishH { background:#FDD; }
th.ElapsedH { background:#DFD; }
th.CorrectedH { background:#DDF; }

The resulting web page can be seen by clicking on
http://www.racesail.org/Test_Ocean.htm. Here we have made the Total column
boldface, colored yellow; the Score column is also bold with a different
color. The other class definitions are for the column headers only - they
have the name of the column with a uppercase 'H' added. There are slight
variations in color here. The Order column has also been removed as above

RENAMED AMERICAP HANDICAP SYSTEM

Changed the Americap handicap system to ORC-Club since this is an identical
system and more widely known (and used) throughout the world.

CHANGED ROUNDING OF CORRECTED TIMES

Removed the universal rounding of corrected times to the nearest second
following the changes in RRS 2005-9. Put back rounding for IRC, ORC Club
(Americap) and Portsmouth.

MOVED TOTAL COLUMN IN OVERALL RESULTS

Changed the default order of the results so that the Total column comes
before the individual race results. In some cases the lines were so long
that it was necessary to scroll to the right to find the actual score.

SHORT CUT FOR EDIT BOAT INFO

A double-click on a row will automatically invoke the edit boat information
dialog.

RACESAIL GROUP

If you are using RaceSail, it's recommended that you subscribe to the
RaceSail User Group. It's a very low traffic mailing list but any bugs
and/or suggestions will first be reported here. Subscribe to it on the web
at this URL: http://www.topica.com/lists/RaceSail.

You can also join the list via email simply by sending a BLANK email to:
