Apple has released a software update for the newer iPODS that let you go
into "settings" and establish a maximum volume setting. There appear to
be several other refinements in the update.

Available on the Apple site.

I read about that. It is apparently due to some lawsuits from folks
claiming that they are losing their hearing because they were able to
listen to their Ipods at what would be considered excessive noise volumes
on a TWA according to OSHA standards......85 dba TWA/8 hours

Duh............whatever happened to personal responsibility? There *is*
a volume control on the units.

I would not download the software unless you like to hear your music at
low volumes. The release of the software is nothing more than a CYA move
on Apple......and a very smart move at that. ;-)

There's more in there than a volume limiter.

Anything useful or practical?

BTW: I should have taken you advice on the Ipod skin retailer you
suggested. I purchased a pretty decent one over the net for $7.50 but it
did not include a screen cover.......so over to WallyWorld I went and found
a screen protector for $5.50 $13.00 total investment for total Ipod
protection and impregnation......almost better than a Trojan! ;-)
