Just getting into sailing and am trying to learn everything I can.
I was reading a page on rigging and came across this paragraph

A note of caution. On some of todays' new cruising designs, the hulls
are very full in the forward sections. This happens on boats that try
to give you a condominium on the water. If the hull is too full in the
forward sections tightening the sheets will simply lead to an increase
in leeway even though it appears to be pointing better. This is a huge
sailing compromise. Good designs by professional naval architects will
incorporate a narrow, flared forward hull section to slice through the
seas easily and a plumb stern to compliment the rig. This is the
sailing difference between a Beneteau and a Catalina.

are they saying that the Beneteau or the Catalina is a better ship?

thanks,
Scott

They are saying the Beneteau is the better ship...the Catalina
carries a lot of weight in the front and is "plumper"...especially
if you're comparing a First to a comparable Catalina....
