Default trolling 30lb electric, will it do?

Yes I'd mount it on the transom beside the 65hp, and when fishing I'd turn
it on (shut off the big one)... then slowly troll at max 3kph. Maybe be out
3 hours at a time trolling slowly.
Indeed a separate battery would be good to use. If the big motor is down,
then I may try to steer with that.

I'm getting excited about the upcoming season and want to figure out my
trolling options. I've been pondering going electric for some time.

for my 15.5 runabout fiberglass I've been thinking about putting a 30lb
min
kota on the back for the purpose of trolling while fishing. I'd only be
looking to go 3 kph max and if there were big waves then clearly I
wouldn't
count on an electric motor to get me around.

what do you guys think?

If you are only using it to push the boat along a shore line after
motoring there, then 30lb will work fine, although don't expect to be
moving at a high rate of speed. I suspect you'd be happier with a
higher thrust.

I assume you will be mounting the trolling motor at the stern of your
boat so just be aware that controlling the direction of your boat may
be problematic.

I would not run this off your starting battery, but put a deep cycle
battery in the boat and charge it when you are ashore.

Should be just fine.
