Default Merchant Marine Mike

Don't know Mike, but I am a former Merchant Marine 3rd Mate. You do
not sit for an AB's ticket. Take some courses, a couple of test and do
your time.
You sit for the 3rd mates lic. The test takes 5 days and it is a
bitch, hince sitting for your ticket. The test involves Rules of the
Road, Navigation, Ships construction, boom cargo load and everything
in between. I sailed as a AB for 3 years, went to school at Seaman
Churches School of Seamanship, (no longer a school), than sat for my
ticket twice. Failed the navigation part, took the test a couple month
later, only having to do the Navigation part of the test.
Best job I ever had!!!!! Sailed for another 10 years, until I got
tired of coming home and checking to see if the toilet seat was up.
