Is something else, nice work!
Thank you.
I am not a go-fast kind of guy myself, but that does look like
something. :-) How fast does the fuel go?
100 gph at speed, which roughly translates to about 2 gallons per
mile.
:-) And what does it burn?
Anything. gasoline, kerosene, diesel, paint thinner, Bacardi
151...just about any liquid that will burn, but my best results are
55/50 kerosene/gasoline. The gasoline helps keep the EGT down at
prolonged idles and starts.
I was just wondering about the cost of operation.
On the equipment side, there is virtually none. The nice thing about
turbines, is they are right at home running at 100%, and have
virtually no wear. Something you cant do with a piston engine, without
having to expect a rebuild every year, or even more.
The down side to the turbine is fuel consumption, and noise. I run in
a large unlimited HP/noise reservoir, but even at a half mile away,
the whistle and roar can still be heard. Its also a little nerving at
the ramp/docks...I sometime see the look of "That things just too damn
load".
On a good day, we can average about 50-60 gallon per hour, so as you
can see, nowadays, its quite easy to drop $100-$150 in just an hour.
I only took it out about 3 or 4 times last year.
Do you race this ??
Tried to get into some organized drags, but everything needs a Keith
Black HP rating...and rating that was designed around piston engines,
so we were out. We did pick up some races on the side tho.
Or just take it out once in awhile to have fun.
I built the boat for more of an R&D thing...I really try to go out in
the early mornings and late afternoons to take measurements, readings,
tweaking, ect. The boat is solid now, and is just about having fun
going fast, without having to worry about gernading your engine.
I do always enjoy the newbie 70 mph PWC operator. Seem their always
looking for a race...seems they always lose too.
Take care.
