Ever had a properly made pair of plastic prescription shades that cost
more than $100?
I don't wear prescription glasses (yet), but I have tried some high
quality (over 100 bucks) plastic sunglasses. You will think I am nuts
but I ride a Harley and for some reason I have never felt comfortable
viewing through plastic lenses, even the expensive ones. There is a
distortion that I just don't like. I've noticed the same thing in some
glass lenses as well, but not to the same degree as the plastic. A
well made pair of lightweight glass sunglasses provide a non-distorted
view that I am comfortable with when riding.

Glass is funny when it breaks. Especially around eyes. That's why most
schools won't let kids play sports if they have glass lenses.
I don't play sports while wearing sunglasses.
I have never heard of a fisherman on Lake Erie suffering an eye injury
because of glass sunglass lenses while he/she was fishing.
Care to provide some proof otherwise?
Buddy of mine had a near miss with a lure that ripped out of a fish's
mouth. And, you're in a moving "vehicle". Anything could happen.
Seriously - if you haven't had high quality plastic lenses, you're missing
something. You generally have to go to a small optician to get them. The
Pearle Vision / Lenscrafter type places generally don't supply them.
Fair enough. I will check them out when having my next eye exam.
Here's are two brands that have gotten a lot of complements from people
fishing the Ches Bay.

When boating, I need something that is more "wrap around" or my eyes water.
As I have to wear prescription glasses, and don't want to fork over the
$450 the optometrist folks want for sunglasses, I wear these:
