Default OT; some Steamy pics for Doug...

Yeah,

The Old Bailey transmitters removed the square root and produced a
uniform signal to simplify bias response. Now the Dp cell transmitters
remove the square root in the transmitted signal pneumatically or
electronically. No more mercury flow meters. To dangerous ?, so the
Safety People say. Boy were they accurate and stayed in Calibration for
years.

After I retired, I got roped into doing some ship conversions to
container ships. High Pressure Steam turbines. Not like the ones Scotty
was transporting.

In the Old Philadelphia Refinery. They used those steam engines for
pumps before they even had electricity. Some had Fly Wheels two stories
high. Each with its own building (Pump Sheds) They operated around the
clock. Three shifts. Usually with a Head Pumper and a couple operators
and helpers. They all had names; like "Big Mary", "Berty" and so forth.
The were cared for and pampered like you wouldn't believe. Custom paint
jobs and fancied up pump houses Things of Beauty they were.

Now gone and only a few of us old timers even remember.
