Southern vs northern boats

A friend who was boat shopping once remarked that boats in FL looked
older than their counterparts in the north. I ascribed this to the
effects of sunlight and more use over a year.

the sailor in tune with boat maintenance.
Sailing in the South requires seasonal work, too. Believe
me, you do NOT want to do boat yard work in the summer down
here.
Down south it is easy to let a boat go. Even northern
sailors tend to move their boats south to cut down on
the annual maintenance.
Or at least on haul-outs.
The net result is that many, not all, southern boats fall into
disuse and suffer from lack of maintenance.
It's also a trap of thinking you can always go sailing, so
you don't go today. Up north, you gotta go now before the
season is over.
... It is the boat
graveyard.
I've seen a lot of derelicts in back lots up north, too. I
can take you acres of boats in RI and Massachusetts that
haven't been in the water for 10 years.
A similar things happens with beer. Excess beer gets shipped
south.
Hey, I been missing out. Are you saying you guys send us
free beer??!?
