Not to disparage the dead, but consider this, two people together, a
49 year old guy with all his attributes, and a 26 year old gal with
all her uh "attributes"
snip
Why did you say it if you don't know what it means?
I did not say I don't know what I mean, why don't you take a SWAG at
what I mean?
Why not take a SWAG? Well, because most of us are not the kind of
decent upright Christians who go around with our minds in the gutter.
Most of us do not assume that when two colleagues, working out of town,
want to try a recreational activity that doesn't interest anyone else
in their workgroup, that there must be a sexual basis for their
interest. It would certainly never have occured to me without yer
tacky inuendo.
Is this what Jesus has given you? A mean-sprited, narrow-minded,
fault-finding, back-biting view of life? The presumption that everyone
operates out of the most base motives? I'll bet you thank Jesus every
day for his gifts
I have a friend who has figured out that the reason Christians
attribute disgusting motivations to everyone else is that they are
constantly battling those same disgusting motivations within
themselves, and they cannot believe that the rest of us operate under a
diferent set of motivations. They cannot understand that the operative
word in "secular humanist" is "humanist"; that we tend to operate,
without conscious thought or the need to resist any vile impulses, by
principles of humanity and humanitarianism -- courtesy, consideration,
love, trust, and generosity.
My apologies to all the kind, decent Christians who read this. It's
just that those fundamentalist assholes give you all a bad name.
-Richard, His Kanubic Travesty
Richard, First off, I don't recall saying anything about Christian
values or morals, or anything along that line. I was just making a
comment about the reality of the world in which we live!
What "reality" are you talking about?
If you have difficulty dealing with reality
What did he say, specifically, that indicates he is having difficulty with
reality?
I would recommend a good reality
check. It seems that your high minded humanist principles knew exactly
what I was referring to.
Whatever it is, why are you keeping it a secret?
I don't think you claim to be a Christian, so
I expect that those awareness' to the inuendos, like it or not, come
from your deep well of high-browed humanism. Your gutter was already
there, if you choose to ignore it, and then complain when it is
brought into view, I suggest that is your problem.
What has been brought into view?
Secondly I was not saying that I understood all the facts of the case,
since we were given little info. However the jist of this thread is
why do people do stupid things, and one major reason often involves
mixing relationships
Do you have evidence that the "mixing of relationsihips" (whatever the
christ that means!) has a direct correlation to increased kayaking tragedies
or other such accidents? If not, what the hell are you talking about?!?
under the circumstances that these two found themselves.
What circumstances?!?!
They may have been totally up and up in what they were up
to, but that would not change the theme of the thread.
What the...? They went kayaking. What the christ are you talking about? Are
you suggesting they were trying to have sex while balancing on the bow? Or
what? What the hell are you talking about?!
Third, If you choose to write a memorial to these outstanding upright,
colleagues, then I would suggest that this is not the forum or the
thread for that statement. I find it amusing whenever someone dies,
and all the sad sacks come out and post "Oh how terrible it is" when
the people who died were doing what they wanted to be doing.
Well, they surely didn't want to be drowning.
If they were up to mischief
What mischief?!?!?!? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!
that is not the issue except how it teaches us
how to avoid making the same stupid mistakes.
Isn't the only lesson here that you should wear a PFD and go out on the
ocean in an area you know nothing about?
And secondly that kayaking guides should not support the above?
Fourth, If you desire to discuss the Christian ethic, and the Humanist
ethic, I would be glad to do so, but I will leave the door open for
you to make a graceful escape. I have been avoiding that conversation
until now, being content to comment in this NG just as a paddler, with
my eyes open to see reality one day at a time. I do appreciate your
concern about my ongoing view of life, but I assure you that I am
quite happy
That could only be true if you are full-blown delusional, because you are
truly one of the more disturbed individuals on usenet.
and well adjusted to the world in which we live, and yes I
do thank Jesus every day for His good gifts, of which my life
overflows!
Like diarrhea from a clogged crapper.
