Bar's of the BVI
When we went, Billy Bones was advertised to us as
a family place. We arrived with the kids for
dinner and the entertainment was tequila body
shots at the bar. Quit entertaining. The owner
came over and apologized.
Soggy Dollar was pretty good too. We stayed in
White Bay two days. My son found a twenty lying
on the bottom where we were moored. I think
that's why he wanted to stay another day.
Honestly, if I have good company, I'd rather sit
in the cockpit and drink than go to any bar.

: I've been getting free sailing magazines for
years.
: This year Yachting Magazine, sent me one
enjoyable
: issue, the Oct 2005 Boat Show Issue. Lots of
boat
: pictures including some gorgeous sailing yachts.
:
: In it there was an article written about the ten
best Bar's
: in the BVI, and it was obvious the writer didn't
sound like \
: she had been to any or all of these places
:
: To rectify this great wrong, I think we should
spread
: the straight word about these above water dives
before the
: season gets fully underway.
:
: The article talks at great length about The
Willie T. Thornton,
: as a great drinking bar, while I found that
while at Norman
: Island, it was better eat there and hit Billy
Bones whose
: famous rum drinks guaranteed a good time. I
like any place
: with a hammock, so Billy Bones is high on my
list of places
: that I like in the islands, while the "Willie T"
I would skip as
: the food was just OK.
:
: Speaking of hammocks, another favorite of mine
is the Soggy
: Dollar, which I prefer over Foxy's. You have to
know where
: the reefs are, and have a reasonable draft to
anchor in close.
: The harbor "range" is gone but there are two red
floats marking
: the entrance. I particularly like the ring
game, where a nail is
: placed in a tree and a piece of string with a
ring on the end is
: swung to try and hook the ring on the
nail--straight on doesn't
: do it, you have to arc it in.
:
: One place the author mentions is a bar that's
not on the water.
: On the East End of St John is Skinny Legs.
Anyone care to
: comment on it? Since it is hard to get to, I
would not have put
: it on the list, unless I included GPS
coordinates.
:
: I'd like what I read about Heidi's on Honeymoon
Beach on St
: Thomas's Water Island. If I was anchoring out
near Charlotte
: Amalie, I'd make a point of going there by dink.
Usually, I high
: tail it away from St Thomas as fast as I can.
:
: What is your favorite island bar?
