There is no law, merely etiquette, protocol and practice. Saw a photo
recently of a squadron of US Navy vessels, very one of which was flying
the national ensign from a different point. If they can't get it right,
what can the rest of us do?

Hmmm.....never heard this before. Frankly I wanted the Jolly Roger but the
boss had a different idea.
