I haven't had a good

30 feet sounds like a lot to me. I troll with wire line and use about
10 feet of heavy mono for a leader, but I'm no expert. Some days I
catch fish and some days I don't.

Have you tried braided line yet? It does work well.

I've been thinking about it - what do you use?

I've got Spectron 50lb on my trolling reels. I bought it at a flea
market for a pretty good price compared to the stores. Don't remember
what I paid for it. It is much thinner than comparable mono. Probably
pretty close to wire.
