photos
& stories: in The Great War, over 1/2 million French colonial troops
served on the European Front. Most of them were Muslims from North
Africa (Algeria, Morocco, etc etc).

Do you think any of the rioters are descendents of these men? Would you

look in the eye of a great-grandson of a French WW1 vet, and tell him
he's not a good enough French citizen to expect equal rights from his
gov't?

The French have a heck of a lot of problems, their socialist system is
*very* expensive for the state to maintain. But when it is heavily
slanted in favor of certain groups and against others, why wouldn't you

expect them to complain? And get angry when their complaints are
brushed
off year after year?

Doug, as far as I've read over the years Europe has welcomed Muslims
with open arms. Why would the grandson of a WW1 vet still be on the
dole? I suspect he is if he's unhappy. I certainly don't know what
happened. It's only in the last few days that I hear of these problems
that they claim to have. In England the bombers were young Musliums
who were born in England and had nice lives. England welcomed Musliums
with open arms also. I'd look one of them in the eye and ask what's up
with that if they were still in one piece. All I've ever heard over
the years was how "progressive" Europe is and that there is no such
thing as racism over there.
