1990 Four Winns 170 advice
They are good boats and the 3 liter engine's no power house but it's
adequate (especially with a 17' boat), reliable and economical to run and
maintain. There's not much to look at it small boats, especially older ones.
They're pretty simple and there's not much to go wrong. While the engine
could be an expensive repair liability on an older boat, be prepared to
spend time and a few dollars on things like the throttle/shift and steering
cables.
$5,000 sounds high - there are some small boats that can be bought new for
$10,000.
Since it's from a dealer, negotiate the price, then try to get a Coast Guard
or Water Ski Package. Both are generic terms for basic safety or water
sports stuff.

I'm going to look at 1990 Four Winns 170 with the 3.0 I would
appreciate any thoughts on this boat, or things to look out for in
this make/model/year.
The dealer is asking $4950 and NADA is listed around $3500 (nada even
sounds a little low...can you really get these boats for that cheap?),
so I would also appreciate any thoughts on what this boat may acutally
be worth.
I have not seen it in person yet, but the pics indicate a well taken
care of boat.
