It has been obvious for years that various people manipulate
this newsgroup for their own reasons or to their own
advantage. In Bobsprit's case, it has been equally obvious
for years that he's been running a long-term behavioural field
experiment.

One of the difficulties with field work of this sort is the
provision of adequate controls--it is often necessary to
resort to time-sequence rather than contemporaneous controls,
hence Bobsprit's regular periods of long absence from the
newsgroup.

about 2000.
