Nah, he doesn't want to watch the sailors, it's too painful.
He wants to
impress the lubbers that have just slightly less experience
than he does.
Quite a bit of truth in that, John. The nicest, most expensive
boats in our
marina aren't owned by *sailors*, rather by those who
consistently invite
lubbers to join them for a weekend of lounging, burning dead
animals on the
grill, drinking, soaking up sun, and on rare occasions a brief
daysail.
They won't untie the boat unless the wind is less than 10kts.
and the sun is
shining in a cloudless sky. The real sailors typically own
lesser craft,
but use them faithfully and frequently. They relish 20kts. and
often are
accompanied by other *real* sailors. I've also noted that once
one acquires
a boat with AC, they don't even spend much time on the dock.
Don't even get
me started on cable TV.
There's a nice, well equipped Bendy 33' a few slips up from me.
The couple is there most every w/e. I used to ask him where he's
headed. One w/e he told me there wasn't enough wind, the next w/e
he said there was too much wind. The yard guy said they hang
around the marina all w/e.
