DANIA BEACH
Angry crowd pelts repair crews
While many neighborhoods greet power restoration workers with drinks and
snacks, a crowd in Dania Beach responded by tossing rocks at utility trucks.

The repair crews withdrew.

It is unclear why the workers got such a rude reception.

''It doesn't really make any sense if you want to get your power restored,''
said Veda Coleman-Wright, spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff's Office,
which handles police services in the city.

The incident happened Monday night at Northwest Seventh Avenue and First
Street,

BSO said they heard eggs were thrown along with the rocks. An FPL employee
reported it was bottles and rocks.

FPL didn't notify the police until Tuesday morning, when the utility
requested police protection to return to the area.

BSO complied, and the trucks went back to the area and apparently completed
the repairs.

Coleman-Wright said she knew of no motivation for the incident.

Now you know why the east coast had problems after Wilma, and we didn't.
