You'd be better off looking into a polyurethane paint process. Done
properly, it looks quite similar to gelcoat. Re-gelcoating would be a
rather difficult and lengthy process.

thanks, I thought it'd be hard to do, I just wasn't sure. Would I take
off the old coat (it's cracked, but not flaky) and just paint over it?
