I guess the lasting impression I have of Hawaii is that from reading
Michener's novel back when I was a kid. (my mother made me read it when I
was 12, bless her).
I always had an image of an exotic, far away place that I wanted to sail
to someday.

One thing I remember about living in Hawaii was when the longshore men went
on strike, which they did about ever six to nine months, the stores would be
picked clean within 24 hours. It really sucks when everything, except Primo
Beer, has to be shipped in on a boat.
