Here's an info-packed page with some basic descriptions of hydrostatic
considerations in hull design:

Will it explain why I puttered through ridiculous weeds 2 weeks ago and
99%
percent of them ended up wrapped around my prop, while 20+ foot boats blew
through them at high speeds and (based on the sounds I heard from shore)
got
through the same weed beds clean?
The difference is speed - the faster the prop goes, the better the mix
master effect.
I can run the Princecraft slowly though a weed bed and get it all
tangled up, at speed, hardly even notice.
Do you have a shallow water option on your Johnson? I have on mine
and it helps when moving slowly through a weed bed.
My johnson is none of your business, you gay blade.
But SERIOUSLY! It's got a 1/3 up position that's handy for shallow water.
Steers funny like that, but it lets me get through 1.3 feet of water,
according to the depth finder.
