Actually, not far from the truth. I've done some personal investigation
of my friend's basis for not wanting to make the water rise for all
ships in the harbor.

I've heard more than once that "those people" aren't smart enough to
make it in the world and there's no reason to share the hard fought
earnings of us smart folks.

They fail to recognize the the odds are stacked against many less
fortunate in a more than unfair way.

I think the Dali Lama defines pain as the distance between expectations
and what is. I'm paraphrasing.

As far as our country is concerned, I'm in a lot of pain. I grew up
thinking we were better than this. We're living so far below our
potential that, to me, it's depressing.
