Or guitars and motorcycles of coarse.
I still have a Gretsch Country Gentleman autographed by Chet Atkins.
It's a nice guitar, but so heavy you could use it for ballast.
ROTFL!!!!
Got that right.
I liked it because I'm somewhat heavy handed anyway and much prefer
the smooth action for chording and light jazz than the quicker
fingering you found on Strats or Les Pauls. The Gretsch, much like
the Ovation I have, has a nice big neck which fits my hand better.
I've had some nice Gretsches over the years. I wish I still had some of them.
Most notably a really nice Double Anniversary, and a very mint Roundup (even had
the original hang tags) that I sold to Al Ferrante, who has a fairly large
collection of cool guitars. I still have a cadillac green Tennessean, but it's
not completely original.
Very nice - the Tennessean was a really nice guitar.
My collection isn't grand, but I have a pre-CBS '55 Strat all
original, no mods, an original black Telecaster, one of those weirdo
looking clear bodied Danelectro bass guitars and perhaps the piece 'de
resistance, an all original sun burst 1951 E165 Gibson that my father
owned. I have a tan case Bandmaster that still works, but has been
updated with all new guts - mylar caps, hi-tech resistors, new/old
stock tubes and a new/old stock transformer. The speakers are also
new with mylar cones. In addition to the Gretch and the Ovation which
I still play occasionally.
My brother has a '65 Jazzmaster all original and a black face
Bandmaster amp which actually is all original except for the speakers
which are mylar cones.
Man, this brings back some memories. Too bad I can't play anymore.
Time to dig out the Ventures CDs and head off to the lake. ;)
The Ventures - a band that TRULY loved guitars. They are still huge in
Japan of all places.
Yeah - I just read that.
Interesting.
