Well, I've seen those newreel images of some woman trying to christen a

Nah, they make special christening bottles now, with pre-scored glass
and a net to catch the broken shards.

Understood, but I"m pretty sure I still don't want to whack my fiberglass
boat with a bottle, scored or not! Maybe a boat made of steel, but not
fiberglass.

On small boats, you pour the bubbly over the bow.

People are kind of snotty about their wine in my neck of the woods (Sonoma
County); does the boat know the difference between good sparkling wine and
inexpensive sparkling wine? Does it have to be Champagne from France?

The 'Vigor' character says...don't displease the sea gods by being
cheap. Get the best you can afford....after all, only some goes over
the bow...the rest you drink.
