Gene, I agree yet disagree.
The first priority is to unite in the relief and recovery effort. No

Agreed.
Once the situation is under control and the dead are recovered then the
blame game should begin. Until then it serves no purpose.
Not necessarily.... those of us too far removed geographically to
help... other than a financial contribution, should be free and
willing to discuss what went wrong.
And yes, we will find fault at the local, regional, State and Federal
levels
and folks must be held responsible for their lack of action or ineptness.
Clearly, most of the blame belongs at the Federal Level.... as they
were the ones who over the course of time failed to act on their own
data. FEMA had already warned.. in sufficient time.... that a
hurricane striking New Orleans was the third most likely disaster to
befall the US..... forewarned SHOULD have been forearmed.

Since the blame game is once again brought up...........
Clearly, most of the blame belongs at the personal level....if folks did not
have the sense to get out with a predicted Cat 5 heading down on them, shame
on them. The Federal Govt. is not responsible for that. No government can
protect you from danger....*you* must take responsibility for *your* safety.
The next level of blame lies with the Mayor of New Orleans.....he had plenty
of warning and had the resources to order the folks out of the city....for
those not having cars or other means to get out he had a fleet of school and
city buses/vehicles at his disposal. No evacuation plans for a city
sitting 20 feet below sea level and subject to a direct his from a Cat 5
hurricane.
The next level of blame lies with the Governor of Louisiana.....again she
had plenty of warning about this storm and should have formulated an
emergency plan for the State.
The next level of blame lies with the previous Administrations. As Tom
previously posted the warnings were posted yet funding was not provided to
address the flooding and hurricane exposures in the 1990's.
Now we can blame the Federal government....yep they were slow to react. Yet
their hands may have been tied.
As I have said all along let's stop with the blame game for now.....it
serves no purpose.....plenty of time for it after this disaster is under
control.
