I can not believe that Harry would use the plight of New Orleans for
political gain. This is a new low, even for Harry.

I just saw a bunch of Bush Administration officials on TV patting
themselves on the back for their great efforts to date, and the Homeland
Security Director saying everything is under control at the SuperDome. I
suppose no one told him about the news reports and videos showing people
dying inside the Dome for lack of food, water, and medical attention.
Most of the emphasis of these Bush officials was on law enforcement, not
relief.

Get a grip Harry. First - how many have died in the SuperDome? I
suppose you choose to ignore the fact that the Coast Guard is
constantly flying choppers in an effort to rescue trapped individuals.
How about the fact that over 5 ships are now on station or on the way
to New Orleans (they all left as soon as the storm passed) to provide
supplies, rescue operations and medical assistance? The National Guard
is providing rescue operations as well as security. Did it occur to
you that the water just stopped pouring over the levy this morning
which now gives them a chance to repair pumps, hook up generators etc,
The pipeline is already back in operation and the administration has
agreed to tap strategic oil supplies if needed to get the refineries
back on line. FEMA is assessing options to provide housing once the
water is pumped out. I guess you expect to be able to sit on Bourbon
St. and sip a Hurricane two days after one of the most destructive
storms in history has passed?

No one told them that disaster victims who are being fed and sheltered
and receiving proper care are less likely to loot?

Have you ever been near the housing project off Rampart? This is where
many of the Superdome refugees came from. I'm sure there are some fine
poor folks there and I'm sure there are some that are stealing to
provide food etc. for their families but you can bet your bippy that
many of them couldn't wait for the storm to pass so they could take
advantage of the opportunity. Ask any cop or citizen in New Orleans
and they'll tell you that the housing project is a rats nest of crack
addicts and thieves. Even the cops won't go in unless they absolutely
have to. I had my car broken into there and it's amazing that someone
could shatter a window, climb in and steal two purses in broad
daylight within 75 feet of a bunch of people sitting on their porches
and when you ask the witnesses the standard answer was "I didn't see
nothin' ". I wound up having to buy the purses back (most likely from
the guys that stole them) and while sorting the contents we found we
were blessed with a crack pipe.
