Default Brit attempts north Atlantic crossing in a 14' powered by a kite

LONDON (AFP) - A British adventurer was hoping for a place in the record
books by crossing the North Atlantic Ocean in a tiny 4.26 metre (14 foot)
boat that is pulled across the waves by a kite.

Dom Mee, 34, a former Royal Marine commando, set off from Saint John's,
Canada on Thursday, hoping to reach Exmouth in Devon, southwest England, in
35 days -- a journey of 5,630 kilometres (3,500 miles).

"Dom was due to set sail from Newfoundland this coming weekend, but a
weather window presented itself and he had the opportunity to set sail,"
said his project manager Adrian Wibrew.

Mee's yellow craft, dubbed the Kite Boat, only has room for him, 60 days'
worth of food and a 10 metre square (107.6 square foot) kite that should
give it speeds of up to eight knots.

I hope he brought along plenty of kite string.
