Well, it may have been the Moonies, but they built one hell of a
center console fishing boat designed by Henry Masters. That same boat
is now being built under the True World Marine banner and frankly, I
had seriously considered purchasing one prior to buying the Contender
I have now. The reason I didn't is that I wasn't comfortable with the
inboard diesel system - I'm an outboard guy at heart and prefer them.

The old Master Marine center consoles are highly prized for
restoration and can command some pretty nifty prices pre-restoration
and after. Ocean makes a clone copy of the boat, only it's one foot
shorter than the original 27'9".

The original Master Marine CCs were long range, handled like a dream
and took heavy water with aplomb. They had a solid chine with a wide
bow flare combined with a sharp bow angle and entry with an extremely
long forefoot. The 24º V also kept the boat solid as a rock in heavy
weather. I've taken one into a series of 5' rollers in the East
Passage of Narragansett Bay and never got wet.

The True World 28 that I tested was a great boat. It was well fit out
and other than the inboard jack shaft diesel, I would have bought one.

Amazing design - I'm surprised more designers haven't cloned it.
