Here's a good place to compare your progress. At least 100 pipers are
expected for the parage celebrating the 50th anniversary of Canso Causeway.

Slowly improving.

My wife says I'm getting better, and the cat no longer retreats to his
litter box during my practice sessions. My instructor says I'm
improving as well, but that comment usually immediately precedes the
moment when I write the check for my weekly lesson. :-)

After learning 2-3 more specific techniques, I'll graduate to playing
actual tunes on the chanter and eventually be able to justify buying
some Great Highland Pipes. When my name appears on the terrorist watch
list, you'll know I've graduated to the mega-decibel pipes and the
neighbors are expressing their opinions of my "music" to the
appropriate authorities.

When you're ready to get all dressed up..check out these people..

Oh, yeah. The kilt. I may be an "outlaw" piper and wear pants. :-)
Besides, according to that site there's no Gould tartan. I could
probably justify the Mitchell tartan, as my paternal grandmother came
from Mitchell stock.....(she was closely related to Dame Nellie
Mitchell, aka "Melba", well known opera singer in Australia). There's
no tartan for my English maternal grandfather's French Huguenot surname
name either, and most of the rest of my ancestors have been in NA since
the 1600's.

However, I suppose if one is going to play the most outrageous musical
instrument ever conceived it's only a short step to wearing the most
outrageous costume ever devised. I've got some distance to go before I
can claim to be any sort of piper on even the most basic level, so I'll
postpone any kilt related angst until it's appropriate.
