Hi,
does anyone know where can i get a hitch for a honda crv locally in
Long Beach/Lakewood area in Calif. thanks.
You haven't asked around B4 posting, it is a waste of time. Hitch
installers are competitive, and the Valley/Draw-Tite products, among
others, are so identical that they even often have the same dealer
cataloque numbers. Any locally installed deal will be much cheaper
than buying one online + shipping plus laying on your back with an air
wrench, so the latter way is usually financially stupid. See if you
can get a Class II instead of Class 1 - almost no hitch accessories
will insert into a Class I tube unless you punch out its restriction to
accept a Class II drawbar (longer), which you can do but is not
kosher/legal. 1-1/4" hitches are already limited enough for useful
aftermarket accessories without hobbling yourself further with Class I.
Other than this most I & II hitches for smaller vehicles are
identically constructed (go figure).
U-Haul is seldom as price competitive as independent shops with the
same or better product, typically $20-30 higher for average small
hitches, and their other parts are outrageous.
You can also get the electricals you need for installing the connector
(if not already in your CRV) at WalMart for half of what hitch dealers
charge, if you can do simple wiring yourself, and it is the same
quality. Even vehicle-specific kits are there & at discount auto
stores for popular vehicles.
