Actually I like to stay at the Beresford Arms Hotel when I stay in the city.
Is 2 blocks from Union Sq. Unfortunately my favorite restaurants are a
distance away. Buco Giovanni is number 1 and for a special treat the Friday
Buffet at the California Culinary Academy.

If you ever decide to go back, try staying at the Handlery Union Square in
downtown San Francisco. It is a great, small, and relatively inexpensive
hotel, more like a small European hotel, actually, that has on-site "park
it yourself" parking right out its back door. The hotel is right off Union
Square, if that means anything to you. It's my preferred hotel when I am
lucky enough to get to S.F., no matter who is picking up the tab. Walking
distance to many first-rate rastaurants, too, and right on a cable car
line.

Oh...and croissants and fresh coffee in the AM, at no extra charge. Right
outside your room.
